Training and Behavior

Department Info:

We provide the animals in our care all available resources to enhance their quality of life while sheltered in order to save as many lives as possible. We recognize, respect, and treat each animal as an individual. We utilize all tools and techniques in our training and behavior programs to teach and support healthy and appropriate behavior for companion animals within our communities.

We continue to learn and develop our skill sets as handlers and trainers so that we meet the needs of as many sheltered animals as possible. We support our adopters in strengthening and nourishing their fundamental bond with their companion animals. We share our program successes with other animal welfare organizations to support life-saving efforts beyond our own shelter and community.

Training Resources:

We offer group classes and private lessons that can help you teach your dog new and better behaviors. We advocate only the most modern, dog-friendly training techniques that are very effective for all dogs, regardless of breed, age or prior training.

Puppy Classes:

We offer puppy classes for puppies up to 4 months of age where you and your puppy can learn valuable skills together in a fun and informal atmosphere. In class, your puppy gets to romp around off-leash with other puppies and learn important doggy social skills, all under the expert supervision of our trainers. While the pups play, the training staff holds an open forum for every puppy owner and offers their knowledgeable advice on any and all questions. For more information or to sign up for class, please contact Behavior & Training Director, Mike Kaviani,  [email protected] or call 631-728-7387 ext. 234.
